Schick Hydro Silk Razor Review

1 Apr

I found the Schick Hydro Silk razor to have both pros and cons. As someone who typically has bad luck with most razors, I was excited to have the opportunity to try this product free of charge. Let’s face it- razors aren’t cheap (at least the decent ones aren’t) and considering I’ve tried many in the past that fell far short of my expectations, I’m very hesitant on spending money on razors I’ve never used before.

Upon receiving the razor, I was pleased to discover it had multiple blades. I’ve found that anything less than three is just not enough, unless you have next to no hair to remove and want to throw it away after one or two uses. I also was intrigued by the water-activated moisturizing serum. I noticed that it had two moisture strips, one on top and one on the bottom, which already was different from most razors I’ve tried that have had just one on the top. However, they didn’t appear to be very thick, so I was curious as to just how much moisture the razor would really provide. I was pleasantly surprised when I took it into the shower with me. As soon as I wet it down the serum started pouring out. I got an incredibly close shave, no cuts, and all without using shaving cream! Even with other razors that have hydration strips, I still tend to pair them with shaving cream, just to be safe. With that said, there may be a bit too much moisture given, at least within the first couple of uses. My legs were left somewhat slimy, similarly to if I were to have used shaving cream. Even as I was shaving, there was a gooey gel being spread with each pass, which is good in terms of hydration and protection, but a bit overwhelming. I had to go back over a few missed spots that were likely skipped over due to it looking like I had already went over that area with the razor. The serum was so heavy in spots that it covered up the hair. I didn’t particularly notice any additional hydration after the fact. I do like to put lotion on my legs immediately after shaving, so I’m used to the extra help the lotion provides. I will say, though, that I did not have as much razor burn as I usually tend to get.

It came with it’s own holder equipped with a suction cup for easy, convenient placement right in your shower, and I would highly recommend using it to store your razor in between uses. Especially if you’re like me and tend to forget to put the shield back on! The first time I used it, I left it sitting in the shower, face down. The next day I went in, picked it up, and the moisture strip stuck to the tile, and most of it ripped right off the razor. This, unfortunately, created a hard, uneven barrier around the actual blades, and therefore ruined the entire razor cartridge. I’ve done the same thing with other razors, but since this one uses an extremely moisturizing, water-activated serum to hydrate your legs, you want to keep it covered. I did like the handle and grip of the razor. It didn’t seem extremely different or even better than others that I’ve tried, but it was nice. The cartridge and razor size was a little big and not very flexible, so it may be difficult to manipulate in smaller areas, but using it on my legs was easy as pie, and the larger size allowed it to cover more surface area making for a much quicker shave.

In the future I will likely continue using this product. I probably won’t use it daily, but it’ll be nice for quick shaving emergencies as I won’t have to get out the shaving cream! And with summer coming, this will definitely come in handy!

Did You Know: Sun Is Good For You!

7 Jun

You may have heard or read reports of people (particularly tanning salons) claiming that tanning is actually good for you. And guess what? It is true! HOWEVER, and that’s a big however, only in moderation. UV Rays do give you vitamin D, which is of course good for you, but you don’t need that much, and getting some vitamin D from Mr. Sun isn’t so important that you shouldn’t protect your skin. It is recommended that you apply your SPF, lotions, etc. about 10-15 minutes after being out in the sun. This gives your body time to absorb the good things the sun provides before burning and other damage sets in. Just make sure you remember to apply your protectant after that. Use your head, though. If it’s a particularly sunny day, it’s not worth the risk. You can always get vitamin D elsewhere! A lot of the time you can check the news or weather in your area to see if the sun is particularly brighter and stronger than usual. 🙂

10 Current Favorites

21 Mar

Here is a list of 10 of my current favorite products. The list doesn’t include cosmetics because there is NO way I’d be able to narrow it down, haha. Perhaps I’ll do my top 10 cosmetics another time. 🙂 I’m not going to write full reviews on each product but feel free to ask me anything you’d like to know and I will do my best to give you a decent answer! Oh, and these are in no particular order, and aren’t necessarily what I stick to everyday!

I always have one of these little guys with me. It is seriously one of the best lip balms I have ever tried, plus it comes in neat form. People are always asking what that “egg” is in my purse! 😛 My favorite flavors are Summer Fruit, Passion Fruit, and Strawberry Sorbet.

2 words: LIFE SAVER. Seriously, I have relied on this product more than anything in my life, haha. If you’re not familiar with dry shampoos, it’s definitely time to get on the ball and try some out! They’re perfect if you’re running late and don’t have time to wash your hair, as well as keeping your hair looking fresh in between washes (since washing your hair daily isn’t good for it). There’s a lot of dry shampoos on the market nowadays, and after trying several this one is one of my favorites.

The best top coat I have ever used! It lives up to it’s name and dries to the touch within a minute. I also love the thick consistency of it; it literally feels like I’m sealing my nails with a top coat, rather than adding another layer of clear nail polish. My only complaint is that because it’s a bit thicker than most, it’s not very easy to get the last few bits out of the bottle when you’re running low.

This is my current favorite hair spray for good hold and volume. Some people find it a little too strong, but if you work with it right, it’s amazing. I always grab for this when I want big hair, or am doing any kind of teasing!

This is the perfect daily face wash. It won’t necessarily clear up any problems, but it’s perfect for maintaining glowing skin. It’s light, fresh, and gentle. And it also has an amazing fragrance, which most face washes lack!

OK, TIGI actually makes one that I prefer, but since I’ve been broke lately this one is a great alternative! This spray gives your hair that messy, beachy, wavey look, which I love! It contains actual sea salt, too, which is surprisingly good for your hair, and smells reminiscent of a beach vacation!

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE! This makes my skin feel like silk after every use. There are a lot of competitors out there, that are much, much less expensive, but I still prefer this one. It will leave a bit of a hole in your pocket, but it’s worth saving up for, in my opinion. You can use whatever skin cleanser, buffer, or polisher you prefer. I don’t know that I’d use an exfoliator with it, since the brush exfoliates while cleaning, but it’s something to look into if your in need of some major exfoliation!

I’m usually not a fan of self-tanners. They streak, look fake, and smell awful, but this is one exception I’ve grown to love. I don’t use it daily, but if I’m ever in need of a healthy, tan glow I start using this about a week ahead of time and it’s magic. It comes in Fair to Light and Light to Medium, and it’s citrus-y scent really does help over power the nasty “tanning smell.”

It truly is a miracle worker! I have super thin, fine hair that can get greasy within hours of washing it, so I don’t use conditioner on a regular basis, but I still have a lot of dryness and damage from lightening my hair, so this is where this product comes in. I just spray a few spritzes on my ends, comb through, and I’m set! It’s pretty heavy for a leave-in conditioner, but it works wonders on a number of damaged hair problems.

I know it’s kind of cliche, but good old-fashioned water is one of the best beauty remedies out there! Keeping yourself hydrated helps make your skin clear and glowing, your hair shining, and overall keeps your body healthy! 🙂
